Okay so I’m back again with another intriguing thought or let me say a claim. I know from the part of the world I come from, most people measure wealth with the kind of cars people drive. The more expensive your car is, the more money you have & the more people respect you. Personally I have had a lot of encounters that suggests that a young lady like me in my early twenties has some value because of the mere fact that they saw me move a car. These people on a regular day won’t even say hi to me. So without a car I am not respected? I am not valuable because of a car? [this is so true]. The society which is you and I are giving people unnecessary pressure, lets call it “adult pressure“. We keep talking about how teenagers face peer pressure all the time but we never get the courage or even take the time to talk about what we face as we step out of our homes as adults. Societal pressures ! It’s everywhere. We look up to the so-called “big people” in our country & want to be like them. Pay attention, I’m not trying to downplay or be judgmental to anyone here. All I’m trying to say is you’ve been going about it wrongly all this while its time for you to wake & see the truth. Growing up we were thought that you need to get a white-collar job sit behind your desk in your office with air condition or be a doctor or a banker. That was the definition of success to that particular generation. Now people think that having a white-collar job can not secure your future therefore you need to be entrepreneur before you can live that luxurious lifestyle & on the plus side you don’t have to work 9-5. This doesn’t work for everybody. We are busy glamorizing entrepreneurship without knowing what it entails. Becoming an entrepreneur means you are responsible for an enterprise. A successful enterprise has to have structure, a business model and a value proposition. I want to tell you its okay if you are not cut out to be an entrepreneur. You can have an entrepreneurial mindset & do very well at your job and live the kind of life you want. All you really need is to add value to whatever you do & wherever you find yourself. My point is society will always tell you what to define as success. Now success is defined by popularity, the cars you own & how expensive the cars are. One lesson about this is a car can not be a valuable asset. Someone may strongly disagree because flashy cars cost so much money. If you buy a car for $200K the more you use the car, the more the value of the car depreciate. That same car would be sold lesser than its original value in 5 years time. You can not buy a car when your child is 2, wait for the him to turn 18 & hand it to him as a birthday present he might not even appreciate it because the car may have lost its value. Every generation comes up with a definition of success. Don’t do what everyone else is doing because we are all not cut out to be the same. Don’t be led astray by what people think & say. Find your purpose & pursue it.
