I have been having some thoughts about people and how we act & treat other people. I had an encounter where a woman was very upset and saying unnecessary things. This woman’s frustration was that, the conductor of the bus she was in was disabled and she seemed to have a problem with that. He had one arm amputated. What got my attention was when she said “you know you are sick instead of you to stay home you want to work”. She said this in his absence. She thought she would get people to agree with her but no one said anything. She seemed educated so I asked myself where is the education?
Stigmatization Must Stop
We are trying so hard to get people off the streets and stop them from begging on the streets. Government & NGO’s want to help equip such people with disabilities but the same people that are supposed to provide support are against it. Disability is not inability. Why would you see a disabled person and the first thing that comes to your mind is hate ? Do you think they wish to be disabled ? Why are people so cruel and insensitive. This man is working hard to make a living but what does he get, critiques!!!
We live in a society where when someone is disabled selling on the streets we won’t buy from them but we will buy from the abled person because of the stigma of the disability. Why can’t we think as humans and feel as humans for once. I’m here to remind you today that disability is not inability. If you see a disabled person trying to sell something support them because it is not easy on their path. Stop the unnecessary critics my dear, it won’t help you or anyone. Let’s support ourselves abled or disabled we are all humans.
