Do black lives really matter ? Are we not tired of people trying to tell us what to think, what to do & how to do it ? People are always trying to cage us with their mindsets. Global citizenship is not something you practice today & leave it tomorrow. It is a way of thinking & it makes all the difference. Global citizenship education is more important in these times than ever. Becoming a global citizen means being concerned about everything that is happening on the globe from politics to economic growth. If you have no idea what it means to be a global citizen I suggest you educated yourself here (global citizen).
For decades, black people have had to deal with unforgettable situations of racism. Racism is one of the most pathetic acts in human history. Racism came about from slavery. This was when black people were sold to the white people without their will or consent. They were starved for months before actually making the journey. They weren’t allowed to use the wash room or bath as that was believed to be a privilege. Okay, you get the picture. People like you & I, were sold suffered & went through all that just to be sent to another country to work for little amounts of money or no money at all. They were stripped of their culture, they were not allowed to speak their dialects & their names were changed. Countless of people lost their life in this process.
Now, I am not of a believer of dwelling in the past because I believe we learn from our mistakes & move on.
2. George Flyord
This man was handcuffed at his back with his face to the ground & he was knelt on, in the neck by the police. He passed away a few moments later. It took an angry family to start the revolution of justice & peace. George Flyord’s family demanded for justice, his community supported, gradually the nation caught up then straight to the global stage.
We have seen a lot of people disputing the fact that places such as Africa shouldn’t be concerned because it’s not our place to show concern. These critics clearly stated that the people of the continent should focus on what’s happening on their continent & leave the matters in the hands of the USA. This can not be positive no matter the angles you view it. First of all, these people are descendants of Africa. Secondly, this is a global issue. I just wonder how people say they want to tour the world when all these things are a major problem. Can you imagine getting killed whiles you are on a tour, would it matter then ?
4. All lives matter
All lives matter indeed but just because people are advocating for justice for black people using the black lives matter movement does not mean any life is less important. It doesn’t mean things like the fight against discrimination of albinos, gender equality, etc are not equally important. All lives matter indeed, but here is the case you can add your voice to magnify the impact & help justice be achieved.
Black people have been discriminated over time & it is high time that black people stood up for themselves in areas of business, development, etc. Let’s stop dwelling in what people have done to us in the past. It’s time to move into the future & work for us.
6. Africa is the future
It is high time black purchased black made products. It is high time black people believed in black people. The revolution is coming & it is time we all look at Africa as the solution. If your skin color matters so much to people, in Africa it probably wouldn’t. It’s time we look at Africa from the perspective that even though a lot was taken from us we still have so much untapped resources. It is time we start putting up processing companies for our raw materials. It is time to move from the mindset that they took from us & therefore we can never be better. This is the best time to invest in Africa. Don’t be left out of the revolution. Africa will only become a strong continent if we can all dedicate ourselves to making Africa better.
7. Social media
Do not let anyone tell you what to support or what not to support, you have a mind of your own. Think critically about situations & act appropriately. The revolution is happening now & you are either part of it or not. Do not let anyone tell you, you can’t make any impact using social media. We all know how powerful social media is. Social media is not a tool for just entertainment but it can amplify anything brought to light. Add your voice & make it count. How can you desire to travel around the world yet you feel racism isn’t your problem? It is everyone’s problem so treat it as such.
